A Wave of Pathos

Qwon Sunwang unravels the profound traces of life, love, and existence through his evocative canvases. In this exhibition, he presents works that explore the movement of relationships and emotions, grounded in scenes of light and flow within natural landscapes. The organic lines traversing the surface and the overlapping layers of color do not merely represent a specific scenery; rather, they reveal a sense of time permeated by sensations and memories. The artist treats nature not as a simple subject, but as a structure where emotions reside. Intangible elements such as rainbows, wind, and the flow of light appear within repetitive rhythms and organic compositions, suggesting the traces of emotions that arise and vanish within relationships. Using the form of a landscape, his work pictorially constructs the distance, density, and passage of time inherent in the emotion of love. Qwon Sunwang has held numerous exhibitions both in Korea and abroad, including in Seoul and Paris, and his works are held in prestigious collections such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Art Bank. - 권순왕은 삶과 사랑, 존재의 흔적을 깊이 있는 화면으로 풀어낸다. 이번 전시에서는 자연의 풍경 속 빛과 흐름의 장면들을 기반으로 관계와 감정의 움직임을 탐구한 작품들을 선보인다. 화면 위를 가로지르는 유기적인 선과 중첩된 색의 층위는 특정 풍경의 재현이라기보다 감각과 기억이 스며든 시간을 드러낸다. 작가는 자연을 단순한 대상이 아닌 감정이 머무는 구조로 다룬다. 무지개와 바람, 빛의 흐름 같은 비물질적 요소들은 반복적인 리듬과 유기적인 화면 구성 안에서 나타나며, 관계 안에서 생성되고 사라지는 감정의 흔적을 암시한다. 풍경의 형상을 빌린 화면은 사랑이라는 감정이 지닌 거리와 밀도, 시간의 흐름을 회화적으로 구축해나간다. 권순왕은 서울·파리 등 국내외에서 다수의 전시를 개최했으며, 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행 등에 소장되어 있다.
